Sacred explores the growth and transition of the Christian doctrine.
History, as well as the bible makes reference to the Holy of Holies, a
room where only the high priest could access in a pure state. Sacred
poses questions of what it might have been like accessing the Holy
of Holies, being that human nature makes it almost impossible to not
have secrets. Sacred features two sculptures (representing the church,
or rather Christians) in a vulnerable state.
A poem will be written on the sculpture. Like the book of Proverbs,
the poem poses itself as a parable, questioning and somewhat urging
the viewer to revisit their past actions, as well as their future actions,
as God sees all.
The choice of white for the sculpture represents purity, while the
writing indicates the tainted revelation of the contents of the person’s
(anyone) heart.
I have chosen to not place this work behind curtains (similar to
the descriptions of the Holy of Holies), but rather to make it directly
accessible. Doing so would acknowledge the scripture indicating the
veil ripping upon the death of Christ on the cross.
